UPDATE: Fire at Used Auto Parts Building in Cape May Under Control

CAPE MAY- Firefighters responded to an eight alarm structure fire at Cape May Used Auto Parts on Oct. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
According to Town Bank Fire Chief, Lewis Megonigal, there were about a dozen explosions due to chemicals in the building, such as cleaners and gases used for cleaning and maintaining car parts. A partial roof collapse occurred as firefighters battled the blaze. The building is destroyed.
There were employees in the building at the time the fire started, but they were evacuated and no injuries were reported. The employees could not give any insight into how the fire started.
Several fire departments responded including Cape May, Goshen, Erma, Villas, Court House, Town Bank, and Stone Harbor.
The fire is under investigation at this time.
