By Harry B. Scheeler Jr.

PORT ELIZABETH—The Belleplain Fire Department was requested to respond to Port Elizabeth for a multi-alarm structure fire here on Franckles Lane at 2:09 p.m. on Sunday, April 19.
The Woodbine Fire Department covered Belleplain’s station while firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
The structure located on a remote end of a dirt road had no fire hydrants assessable.
Tankers from area fire departments responded to the scene and trucks drafted water from a nearby river to supply water.
The structure on fire was a two story out building adjacent to the primary residence. The first floor consisted of a library and study with a three-sided wrap around porch. The second story consisted of the living quarters for the property owner’s daughter and her boyfriend.
The fire destroyed the structure along with a pool which was between the out building and primary residence.
The primary residence sustained smoke, water and heat damage.
A dog and cat were killed in the blaze, according to state police.
The Cumberland County Fire Marshal and State Police Arson/Bomb unit were called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire which originated in the second floor kitchen. The fire was ruled undetermined, according to state police.
The Port Elizabeth, Leesburg, Maurice town, Cumberland, and Heislerville Fire Departments also responded to the scene with State Forest Fire Units and the Millville Rescue Squad.
