MARMORA – Two persons were saved by the quick action of someone who placed a ladder to the second floor of a burning structure across the street from the Wawa at 35 Shore Road, Marmora Feb. 10 about 2:30 p.m.
Ocean City Police Communications were alerted of the blaze by several 911 calls.
According to Marmora Volunteer Fire Company’s Facebook page, the company was dispatched along with Upper Township Emergency Medical Services.
Early reports indicated that it was possible that there were possibly people trapped on the second floor of the structure. “Based on these reports and the multiple reports of a working fire, Seaville Fire and Rescue, Tuckahoe Fire Company and the Ocean City Fire Department were called for assistance,” according to the page.
Firefighters found heavy fire on both floors of the structure as well two vehicles in the rear of the building. Additionally, the three buildings surrounding the fire building were starting to burn and crack windows due to the intense heat.
Further information gathered upon arrival told of a passerby who placed a ladder to the second floor to rescue trapped occupants. That person’s action reportedly saved two lives.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, searched the first and second floors for any additional potentially trapped occupants and extinguished any fires in other buildings.
