Two Elderly Women Rescued from Smoky Dwelling

By Herald Staff

NORTH CAPE MAY — A smoky oven fire on June 22 about 1 p.m. brought Lower Township Police to 671 Townbank Road.
When Cpl. Ernest Macomber arrived on scene, prior to the fire company, he found the dwelling filled with heavy smoke, according to a release.
A neighbor advised Macomber that two elderly females lived in the residence. At that time, Macomber entered the residence, and kept low, as to avoid smoke. He located the two females.
He escorted over out of the residence to safety, and then reentered for the second resident, who had difficulty waling. He physically carried the second female from the building.
Lower Township Rescue Squad treated both residents and Macomber at the scene, and none required transportation to the hospital.
Town Bank Volunteer firefighters quickly extinguished the oven fire.
Chief of Police Edward Donohue praised Macomber’s action that resulted in both elderly residents being saved from the smoke-filled residence.
