Residents Safely Escape Morning Fire

By Al Campbell

BURLEIGH – No injuries resulted when fire was reported in an occupied residence at 1124 Golf Club Road about 6:15 a.m. May 8.
Court House Fire Chief Paul Hand said the fire was contained to one room, and was extinguished in about 15 minutes. Upon arrival he closed the front door, which helped to quell the blaze, but the front window was blown out.
Hand estimated 30 firefighters responded. All persons safely escaped, he said.
Following standard procedure, Rio Grande Fire Department was summoned, Stone Harbor was called to send an engine to Court House, and Avalon then sent an engine to cover Stone Harbor.
Cause of the fire was being investigated by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office.
