Police Investigate Crest Fire

WILDWOOD CREST – Wildwood Crest Volunteer Fire Company responded to a report of smoke in the area of the 200 block West Lavender Road July 17 around 7 p.m. 
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a fire on the first floor apartment, according to Chief Ron Harwood of Wildwood Crest Volunteer Fire Company. The fire was contained to the first floor unit, with some smoke damage to the second and third floors.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
“The fire was contained within 20 minutes,” said Harwood.
Fire companies from Wildwood responded, along with Rio Grande Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) and Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Wildwood Crest Police Department detectives and the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, Harwood added.
