One Rescued from Ocean City Fire

OCEAN CITY – Firefighters were dispatched to the 1500 block of Simpson Avenue Feb. 18 to investigate smoke in a home shortly after 10:30 p.m., Chief Chris Breunig said.
When responders arrived, they found a fire in the unit below that of the original caller’s. Firefighters made entry into the unit and found an active fire, Breunig said.
One occupant of the building was rescued by firefighters. The occupant was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Campus with life-threatening injuries, and later transferred to Temple Burn Center, Philadelphia.
Breunig said 18 firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the main unit with no extension. The fire was under control in approximately 25 minutes.
One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation, and was transported to Shore Medical Center, Somers Point, and has since been released.
Cause of the fire is under investigation.
