No Injuries in MUA Compost Site Fire

By Al Campbell

SWAINTON – The cause of a Nov. 27 fire at the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority’s Seven Mile-Middle composting facility remains undetermined, according to Joseph Rizzuto, executive director.
There were no injuries.
He was contacted in early afternoon of the problem. Officials later contacted Court House Fire Department for assistance. That department subsequently requested some other departments for assistance at the scene. The fire was contained within the facility.
As of Nov. 30, Rizzuto said the material continued to smolder in one of the bio-reactors which converts sludge from all MUA wastewater treatment facilities into compost.
