Lower Township Police Rescue Two Residents From a Smoke-filled Apartment

VILLAS – Lower Township Police responded with the Villas Fire Department to 77 Wildwood Avenue, Villas for a report of a structure fire with entrapment March 14 at approximately 12:13 a.m.
Police arrived on scene moments prior to the fire company and learned that there were still two residents in the downstairs apartment.
Patrolman Kevin Boyle, Jr. and Patrolman Stephen Flitcroft entered the smoke filled apartment. Inside they located a male and a female sleeping in the bedroom. Patrolman Flitcroft attempted to awaken the subjects as Patrolman Boyle attempted to locate additional victims.
The subjects were disoriented and were unable to be awoken.
Two additional officers arrived on scene shortly thereafter, Patrolman Robert Fessler and Patrol Officer Jennifer Anzelone, to help in assisting the residents out of the apartment.
The two occupants were safely removed from the residence. They were treated by Lower Township Rescue Squad.
Patrolman Boyle was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center and treated for smoke inhalation and released shortly thereafter.
