Lightning May Have Caused Avalon Structure Fire

AVALON- One of the 32,000 recorded lightning strikes may have been the cause of a structure fire on the 300 block of 42nd Street, here.
According to Chief Dean the Avalon Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at 2:57 p.m..
When fire crews arrived, fire and smoke could be seen from the chimney and rear of the two story single-family dwelling.
Mutual aid was requested from Stone Harbor and Cape May Court House, firefighters were in operation for ninety minutes with no injuries reported according to Dean.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshall office.
No other information is available at this time.
