Lightning Damages Crest Home

WILDWOOD CREST – Wildwood Crest Volunteer Fire Company responded to a report of a house struck by lightning with smoke showing on the 6900 block Seaview Avenue around 7 p.m. May 14.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke in the attic, according to Chief Ron Harwood of Wildwood Crest Volunteer Fire Company. Damage was contained to the attic.
There was no one home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
There were dogs in the home, and firefighters were able to get them out, Harwood said.
It took about 45 minutes to get under control, Harwood added.
Fire companies from Wildwood and West Wildwood also responded, along with Rio Grande Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) and Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office.
The cause of the fire was “from a lightning strike,” said Harwood.
