Green Smoke, Then Car Ignites

BURLEIGH – Middle Township Police Department responded to a report of a car fire at 73 Indian Trail in Burleigh Feb. 21 at 1:20 p.m.
Rio Grande and Court House fire companies responded. William Davis, 28,  stated that he had previously conducted repairs on the muffler of his car. Just prior to calling, Davis observed what he described as green smoke coming from within his vehicle, and the backseat appeared charred. When he opened the trunk the car ignited into flames. There was fire damage to another vehicle and the house.
The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries.
The case is under investigation by the Middle Township Major Crimes Unit and the Cape May County Fire Marshal.
