By Herald Staff

WOODBINE- The cause of an explosion in an unoccupied laundry building at the Woodbine Developmental Center on August 2, was determined to be from a leaking generator, Woodbine Fire Chief Clarence Ryan confirmed.
According to a report by the Atlantic City press, state official’s said gasoline leaking from the generator mixed with water in a 6-foot deep pit where water ran through to be treated. An electrical pump controlled water levels, and when the pump automatically switched on, the spark ignited the vapors that had settled in the water.
The explosion lifted the roof off one section of the building. No one was injured in the blast.
