ERMA – On April 19, at about 1 p.m., Lower Township Police Department responded to the Cape May County Airport for a report of an oil tanker on fire.
Officer Kaitlin Black arrived on scene and evacuated the immediate area. The entrance to the airport was blocked off and Erma Volunteer Fire Company arrived on scene to extinguish the fire.
According to a release, the fire was quickly extinguished. The oil tanker, owned by Pedroni Fuel Co., Vineland, and an additional vehicle that was parked next to the tanker sustained major damage. Additionally, an electric pole and transformer owned by Atlantic City Electric also sustained damage.
The county CBERN Unit, which oversees cleanup of various types of environmental hazards, was summoned to the scene, according to scanner reports.
There were no reported injuries at the time of the release.
