WILDWOOD – Wildwood City Fire Department – Engine Company 38, under the command of Captain Gose, along with North Wildwood Fire Department – Engine Company 2, responded to 3800 Pacific Avenue for a reported structure fire at 11:22 p.m. Oct. 2. The fire was reported to be showing from the roof. On arrival fire was showing along the roof line of the structure on Pacific Avenue. The fire was quickly extinguished and the area overhauled searching for fire extension in the roof/soffit area. This fire occurred during the storm which created a dangerous situation during the incident with the high winds and driving rain. Fire units operated on scene for about an hour. There were no reported injuries.
The fire was investigated by the City of Wildwood Fire Department and was determined to be accidental (electrical). Damage is estimated at $5,000.
Also during the storm, Engine 38 was dispatched to 3700 New Jersey Avenue, Sandman Towers, for a wall collapse at 1:05 a.m. Units arriving discovered a large section of the brick facade had collapsed due to the high winds.
Structurally, the building remained sound as the curtain wall that collapsed is more decorative than structural. Firefighters removed remaining pieces of the wall to prevent further collapse and secured the area from pedestrian traffic.
No injuries were reported at this incident. The City of Wildwood Construction Office was notified.
