WOODBINE — Firefighters battled a mulch fire at the County landfill on Tuesday, Sept 8 for over an hour before flames died down.
The Woodbine Fire Department, State Forest Fire Service and Belleplain Emergency Corps responded to the blaze that was reported just after 10 p.m.
Firefighters were forced to cut through three locked gates to gain access to the fire, which was approximately a quarter mile into the site. A county MUA employee was called in to assist firefighters using a bulldozer to knock down the 10-foot-high mulch fire.
Firefighters used over 2,500 gallons of water to douse the blaze. Fire officials say the fire is not suspicious.
No injures were reported.
