Firefighters Quell Tuckahoe Chimney Blaze

By Al Campbell

TUCKAHOE — Volunteer firefighters from this community braved 16-degree temperatures Jan. 21 while extinguishing a chimney fire at 407 Route 49..
Firefighters reported that homeowners called 9-1-1 around 12:30 a.m. and reported their chimney was on fire.
When units arrived, they were only able to fit one fire truck down the narrow driveway to attack the blaze.
Fire trucks and ambulances lined Route 49 as firefighters broke apart the concrete block chimney with a sledge hammer on the exterior side of the split level dwelling to find hot spots.
Upper Township Rescue Squad provided rehabilitation and first aid. No injuries were reported.
