Firefighters Extinguish Wildwood Structure Fire

By Press Release

WILDWOOD – The Wildwood City Fire Department responded to 3814 Arctic Avenue for a reported dwelling fire around 8:45 a.m. March 9.
Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Speigel arrived, confirmed a working fire and requested a general alarm. Fire units operating on scene were Engine 38 and Engine 2 from North Wildwood FD. Firefighters found fire in the attic area where the HVAC unit for the dwelling was located. The fire was quickly extinguished with minimal damage.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, although SJ Gas Company was on scene, along with a representative for the owner. They were apparently on scene starting the heating unit when the fire occurred. Fire units operated on scene for about 45 minutes. There were no reported injuries. Additional fire units from Wildwood remained in quarters covering the city.
The fire was investigated by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office and the City of Wildwood Fire Department, as was determined to be accidental. Damage is estimated at $3,000.
