Firefighters Extinguish Wildwood Kitchen Fire

WILDWOOD – Wildwood City Fire Department responded to the 4800 block of Arctic Avenue for a reported dwelling fire at 11:33 a.m. Oct. 5. Engine Company 38, under the command of Captain Aldo Sacco, along with North Wildwood Fire Department Engine Company 2, arrived and began a search of the building and extinguishing the fire. Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Speigel arrived on scene, assumed command and requested the alarm be upgraded to a box alarm assignment, recalling off-duty firefighters and volunteer companies.  Firefighters found fire in one unit of a three unit dwelling. Fire was confined to the kitchen area of that unit. The building was occupied at the time of the incident. The occupants self-evacuated prior to the fire departments’ arrival.     
Fire units operated on scene for about an hour. There were no reported injuries. On scene were Engine Companies 38, 2, 37 and Tower 51. Wildwood Police Department were also on scene for scene control.  
The fire was investigated by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office and the City of Wildwood Fire Department, and determined to be accidental (cooking). Damage was estimated at $10,000. Fire damage was throughout and was contained to the unit of origin.
