Video provided by Wildwood City Fire Department.
WILDWOOD – The Wildwood City Fire Department responded to the area of Baker and Arctic avenues for a reported dwelling fire around 12:30 a.m. Feb. 23. Engine 38, under the command of Firefighter Ryan Troiano, arrived, confirmed a working fire and requested the all-hands be transmitted. Fire units operated in a defensive mode to protect nearby exposures due to the heavy fire involvement of the original fire building, which had already begun to collapse in the rear.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Nearby residences were evacuated as a precaution. Fire units operated on scene for about two and a half hours. There were no reported injuries. The building was a total loss estimated at $20,000.
Fire units operating on scene were Wildwood City FD, North Wildwood FD, West Wildwood FD and Rio Grande FD. Several other incidents in the city were handled by Wildwood Crest EMS and Rio Grande FD.
The fire remains under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office and the City of Wildwood Fire Department.
