Firefighters Battle Mulch Fire at Woodbine Landfill

By Harry B. Scheeler Jr.

WOODBINE– Firefighters were called to the county MUA landfill on Monday morning for a mulch fire.
Woodbine Fire Chief Clarence Ryan said the fire was similar in size to the September, 8, 2009 mulch fire they responded to.
It took 13 firefighters approximately ten minutes to bring the fire under control, Ryan said.
Three thousand gallons of water was used in combination with bulldozers to knock the fire down.
Ryan said MUA workers will continue to monitor the mulch throwout the day to check for rekindling.
Belleplain Emergency Corps also responded to the scene. There were no injuries.
