Firefighters Battle Blaze at Ocean City Restaurant

By Other News Source

OCEAN CITY – Firefighters responded to a structure fire at the Happy Days Cafe in Ocean City around 10:00 a.m. June 21, according to a report on NBC 40
The cafe was closed and unoccupied.
“The first unit arrived on location and they found heavy black smoke coming from the rear of the building,” Ocean City Fire Chief Chris Breunig told NBC 40. “The fire was located in the kitchen and prep area. Firefighters made entry into the building; found it very hot and smoky and a lot of fire within.”
First responders were able to extinguish the fire within an hour of its beginning but severe damage was done to the kitchen and the structure was damaged.
“Early estimates may be upwards of $100,000 in damage. It’s not a total loss, so I don’t know exactly how long it will take for them to get back in business,” Breunig told NBC 40.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No other buildings in the surrounding area were damaged.
