Fire in Unoccupied Residence

By Herald Staff

RIO GRANDE – A house fire on Maryland Cove in Rio Grande occurred Jan. 23. First reports started coming in shortly after 8 a.m.
A ladder was placed leading up to the dwelling’s attic area. According to Fire Marshal Conrad Johnson, the fire in the unoccupied residence may have started in the crawl space. “But that is unconfirmed information and premature right now,” Johnson said. “There may have been some remodeling on the house recently. It is unknown if that had anything to do with the cause of the fire.”
Erma Volunteer Fire Company, Green Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and Rio Grande Fire Company were on the scene, as were numerous police and emergency medical personnel.
Atlantic City Electric was also on scene working on power lines outside the residence.
