WOODBINE – Four volunteer fire departments battled a fire at 704 Sumner Avenue Sept. 2 in the late afternoon. The single-story home was occupied, and the American Red Cross Southern Region responded to assist the displaced family.
Responding companies were Woodbine Fire Department, Dennis Volunteer Fire Co., Belleplain Volunteer Fire Company, and Ocean View Volunteer Fire Company. Goshen Volunteer Fire Company provided mutual aid to Dennis by manning its station.
When Woodbine’s first unit arrived smoke was showing from the structure, according to Dennis Volunteer Fire Company’s Facebook page. Additional response was requested from Belleplain and Dennis.
“Firefighters established a water supply and made an aggressive interior attack to contain and extinguish the fire. Ocean View Volunteer Fire Co. was also requested to the scene for additional manpower. The dwelling suffered substantial damage,” according to the social media report.
New Jersey State Police, Belleplain Emergency Corps Emergency Medical Services, Atlantic City Electric, and Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office also responded.
