Fifteen Evacuated from Fire

By Erin Haskell

ERMA – Erma Volunteer Fire Company responded to a report of a structure fire on the 800 block Linden Lane around 8:30 a.m. May 22.
Within 15 minutes, firefighters located fire in an electrical junction box beneath the dining room floor, according to Chief Dave Lepor of Erma Volunteer Fire Company.
The structure, owned by Helping Hands, was occupied at the time of the fire with about 15 people, but staff were able to evacuate them prior to fire companies’ arrival, and no injuries were reported.
Fire companies operated on scene for about an hour, Lepor added.
Fire companies from Villas and Town Bank also responded, along with a Lower Township fire official from Lower Township Bureau of Fire Safety.
The cause of the fire was a “short in the electrical box under the dining room floor,” said Lepor.
