Electric Cord Cited in Apartment Fire

WILDWOOD – Wildwood Fire Department was dispatched to the 3000 block Pacific Avenue at 8:04 a.m. July 3 for a reported structure fire on the second floor. The fire was reported in an apartment located above Atilis Gym.
According to a release, Squad 3, under the command of Capt. Daniel Dunn, arrived and found fire burning in a bedroom wall on the second floor. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, confining the fire to the room of origin.
There was no damage to the gym below.
Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to conduct an origin and cause investigation. The fire was determined to be accidental due to the failure of an electrical extension cord.
Damage is estimated at approximately $5,000.
Units operating on scene included Rescue 3, Quint 3, North Wildwood Fire Department Quint 2 and Wildwood Police Department. Atlantic City Electric also responded.
Fire units operated on scene for just over one hour. No injuries were reported.
