CAPE MAY — Cape May Fire Department responded to a house fire call at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, March 1 at 1045 Washington St.
Firefighters found a rear addition to the historic home in flames, according to Fire Chief Jerry Inderwies Jr.
An occupant was injured and transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for smoke inhalation and burns.
Firefighters were able to save most of the 1800s era, wood-framed structure. The kitchen received some damage along with a Lexus sport utility vehicle parked along side the house.
Fire companies responded from West Cape May, Cape May Point, Villas, Town Bank, Erma and the Coast Guard base.
The county Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene at 6:45 a.m. investigating the cause of the fire.
