Early Morning Blaze Damages Residence

NORTH CAPE MAY – Five adults and a child were displaced but safe after an early morning blaze heavily damaged their home in the 400 block of Delview Road May 5 about 2:15 a.m. May 5.
Lower Township Police Department, along with Town Bank, Erma and Villas fire departments responded to the structure fire, according to a release.
Upon arrival officers observed heavy smoke and flames in the rear of the residence.
Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately one hour.
At 3:16 a.m. it was confirmed that the fire had been extinguished. There were no injuries to the homeowners or responders.
American Red Cross Southern Shore Chapter responded to the call for assistance at 3:30 a.m. The family stayed with a neighbor immediately after the fire. Red Cross disaster case worker volunteers will meet with the family to provide help with emergency assistance to address their unmet needs.
While the fire did not appear suspicious, an exact cause has not yet been determined.
The Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
Agencies involved included: Town Bank, Erma, Green Creek Rio Grande, Villas, and West Cape May fire departments.
Lower Township Rescue Squad and Cape May County Fire Marshal provided assistance as needed on scene.
