OCEAN CITY – Ocean City Fire Department responded to a call at approximately 7:20 a.m. Feb. 8 reporting a truck on fire on the beach near Fifth Street.
An Ocean City Public Works Department employee was operating a dump truck carrying sand to an eroded section of beach when the vehicle caught on fire. The employee was not injured.
Using equipment including a truck equipped to travel the boardwalk, firefighters extinguished the blaze and prevented any debris or material from entering the ocean. Ocean City Police Department assisted in crowd control on the boardwalk.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire. The Public Works Department will remove the vehicle from the beach when the investigation is complete.
