Curious Raccoon Causes Power Outage To Over 9,000

RIO GRANDE– A raccoon caused a short circuit at the Railroad Ave electric substation which resulted in a fire at 11:50 p.m., Saturday night, according to police.
Over 9,000 Atlantic City Electric Company customers in Middle, Lower and Dennis Townships lost power.
According to the power company’s outage website, power was estimated to be restored by 3:00 AM. The site reported 9642 customers in the area were without power with the highest concentration in the Villas area.
By 2:15 a.m., less then 50 customers were reported to be without power, according to the website.
The Rio Grande Fire Department was dispatched to the scene; no injuries were reported.
