TRENTON — Applications for entry-level firefighter positions are now being accepted for 70 fire departments across the state including those in four local municipalities.
According to a state Civil Service Commission release, applications will be accepted for the Cape May, North Wildwood, Ocean City and Wildwood fire departments and many others from Jan. 1 to March 31.
“There is no higher commitment that we have than ensuring public safety,” said Civil Service Chairperson and CEO Hope L. Cooper. “We are fulfilling that obligation by starting the process for local jurisdictions to hire new firefighters to protect our residents and businesses.”
Eligible applicants will take a written examination tentatively scheduled to be given in June 2010. Candidates who pass the written test will undergo a physical performance test.
* Candidates will be able to fill out their applications on the Civil Service Commission Web site at www.state.nj.us/csc, then print and complete the forms and mail them in.
* Paper applications will be available at public libraries, fire departments, community organizations and the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development Employment Services Offices.
“We are encouraging everybody to fill out the forms through our Web site to ensure greater accuracy,” Cooper said.
Once all parts of the Firefighter test are completed and scored, certified lists that are ranked by candidate score will be provided to local jurisdictions for them to conduct their hiring process.
