Cape May House Fire Brings Wide Response

By

CAPE MAY – Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on the 1200 block of Washington Street around 6 p.m. Feb. 13.
The fire appeared to have started on the first floor, and due to balloon-frame construction, spread to the attic, according to Rick Lundholm, deputy chief of the Cape May Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
Fire crews had the fire under control within an hour and a half, Lundholm added.
Lundholm said multiple fire companies responded to the scene. They were from Cape May, West Cape May, Town Bank, Villas, Erma and the Coast Guard Base. Green Creek Rapid Intervention Team, Lower Township and Rio Grande rescue squads, and County Fire Coordinator also responded. Other county companies provided mutual aid by manning different stations.
The cause of the fire is “undetermined, but not suspicious,” said Lundholm.
