WILDWOOD – On March 6 at about 1:35 p.m. the Wildwood City Fire Department received a call from a public works employee who reported a rubbish fire along side the Cape Assist building at 3819 New Jersey Ave.
According to a release from Fire Chief Daniel Speigel, the public works employee then advised the building’s occupants and evacuated them to a parking lot.
Squad Co. 3, under the command of Capt. Aldo Sacco, responded, along with Deputy 3. Deputy 3 arrived on scene, established command and confirmed an outside rubbish fire but reported that a window to the building had been compromised with possible extension into the building.
Command requested Ladder 2 from North Wildwood to assist with interior operations. Squad Co. 3 quickly extinguished the fire preventing any significant damage to the interior of the building.
The fire was placed under control within 10 minutes. The Wildwood City Fire Department cleared the scene at 2:42 p.m.
The fire was under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office.
