Barn Fire No Match for First Responders

By Bryon Cahill

COURT HOUSE – A fire broke out a little after 8 a.m. on Sept. 12 on Goshen Swainton Road. Middle Township Police Officer Michelle Brown held off traffic at the Route 9, Goshen Swainton Road entrance.
Court House firefighters responded to the call to find black smoke billowing up and out of a barn. Middle Township Rescue Squad also responded.
A friend of the family that owns the barn and nearby home came running to the scene. An officer tried to stop him but he shouted, “My friend’s house is on fire!” and kept running, only to be stopped short by a second officer. The concerned man soon came to realize it was actually items inside the barn that were on fire and that his friend was all right.
At time of posting, no further information is available about the cause of the fire. The county Fire Marshall is investigating.
Avalon and Stone Harbor also helped to put out the blaze. No injuries were reported.
