AVALON- Firefighters answered a call to a house fire on 72nd Street about 9:30 p.m., Mon., Oct. 10.
According to Avalon Fire Chief Ed Dean, the fire was complicated by ammunition stored in the home’s garage than began going off from the heat of the fire. He told the Herald firefighters waited for the ammunition to stop popping and made entry.
Dean said the homeowners informed him ammunition was stored in the garage
He said the fire was quickly extinquished. The house suffered some light smoke damage outside of the garage area. The home’s heating and air conditioning system was damaged by fire.
The homeowners were on scene when the Herald arrived. There were no injuries reported.
