TUCKAHOE – Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire in the 2300 block of Route 50 in Tuckahoe Feb. 7 at approximately 1:10 p.m.
Firefighters from Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Co., Marmora Volunteer Fire Co. and Seaville Volunteer Fire-Rescue responded.
According to Allen Carter, Tuckahoe V.F.C’s public information officer, the fire caused extensive damage to the two-story house.
“The house was vacant and there were no injuries on scene,” Carter said. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes.
Traffic on Route 50 was detoured for approximately two hours as a result of the fire.
Upper Township Rescue Squad and the New Jersey State Police also responded to the scene, while Belleplain Volunteer Fire. Co. stood by at Tuckahoe’s firehouse and Somers Point Volunteer Fire Co. stood by at Marmora’s firehouse.
The Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene; the cause of the fire is under investigation.
