Woodbine Receives Green Communities Grant Award

By Press Release

WOODBINE – The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Parks and Forestry, New Jersey Forest Service has awarded the Borough of Woodbine a 2014 Green Communities grant in the amount of $3,000. This award has been endorsed by the New Jersey Community Forestry Council.
The purpose of this Green Communities grant is to provide funding to hire a qualified expert to assist Woodbine in the development of its fourth five-year Community Forestry Management Plan.
The major goal of the State’s Community Forestry Program is to educate all 566 municipalities in New Jersey about the benefits of developing their own distinctive community forestry program and to offer support for these programs.
As a community’s program develops, the extent of its tree cover will increase with an improvement in the vitality of all its trees, leading to greater awareness and appreciation of the benefits of its arboreal resources.
“Woodbine is often cited as being a model throughout the State for its Community Forestry initiative,” added Mayor Pikolycky. “This latest Green Communities grant will enable us to create another five-year plan, continuing our ability to establish a preventative maintenance program, protecting our tree inventory and sustaining our tree-lined community without excess burden on the taxpayer through such additional grant assistance as the current Community Stewardship Incentive Program (CSIP) grant in the amount of over eight thousand dollars which is funding an assessment of our century-old tulip poplar population. ”
