WOODBINE – Mayor William Pikolycky has been re-appointed to serve as a New Jersey State League of Municipalities representative on the twenty-two-member Board of Trustees for Sustainable Jersey(which now also includes members of the NJ School Boards Association).
Mayor Pikolycky’s term of appointment will be from Dec. 3, 2015 through Dec. 31, 2018.
Sustainable Jersey is a certification program for municipalities in New Jersey that want to go green, save money and take steps to sustain their quality of life over the long term. Launched in 2009, it is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that provides tools, training and financial incentives to support and reward communities as they pursue sustainability programs.
Currently there are 432 towns participating in the program and 196 are certified. These participating towns represent nearly 76 percent of the state’s municipalities, and 88 percent of the state’s population. In addition to assisting municipalities to become more sustainable through the actions in the program, since 2009, the Sustainable Jersey Small Grants Program has distributed nearly $1.7 million in grants to New Jersey municipalities to help towns make their communities more livable, environmentally friendly and prosperous.
Woodbine was honored in 2009 as the first Sustainable Jersey Champion in the “Small Community” category and has recently again re-certified at the Bronze level.
“I am honored at being asked again to serve as a State League of Municipalities representative to this Board, and acknowledge them for recognizing our small rural community’s importance by my doing so,” commented Mayor Pikolycky.
