WEST CAPE MAY – The West Cape May Shade Tree Commission is celebrating Arbor Day this April with a special tree planting at the West Cape May Elementary School.
“Trees help reduce pollution, noise levels and are vital to our community,” said Deputy Mayor Peter Burke. A special tree planting, with an evergreen donated by Sunshine News, will take place April 17 at 2 p.m. by the students at West Cape May Elementary, 301 Moore Street.
“Our old and new growth trees provide vital homes to numerous indigenous species helping to keep our environment healthy,” said Mayor Pam Kaithern. “Arbor Day is officially celebrated once a year, but it’s great to appreciate trees every day of the year,” added Kaithern.
Several Indigenous trees will be given out via the Facebook fan page, “Friends of Wilbraham Park.” There is no purchase necessary, however, entrants must have a property in West Cape May to participate. The drawing will be held April 30.
West Cape May’s Shade Tree Commission is made up of volunteers working to protect the tree canopy in the borough as well as maintain and improve Wilbraham Park in West Cape May. For more information visit www.westcapemay.us
