Volunteers Needed for Sea Isle City Beach Clean-Up

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – Volunteers are needed for the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission’s 2012 Spring Beach Clean-Up on Sat., April 21, 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon, along all of Sea Isle’s beaches and dunes (rain date: April 22). During the yearly “Beach Sweep,” hundreds of pounds of debris will be gathered and documented by participants, who will be treated to a complimentary luncheon for their efforts.
Families, individuals, civic groups, scout troops, businesses and all other volunteers can register on the day of the clean-up at JFK Boulevard and the Promenade. The Environmental Commission will provide all supplies, including rubber gloves, large trash bags and official “Beach Sweep” forms, which will allow volunteers to document exactly what type of debris is collected. That data will then be given to Clean Ocean Action, of Sandy Hook, NJ, an organization that protects local waterways through science, research, education and citizen actions.
Immediately following Sea Isle’s 2012 Spring Beach Clean-Up, all volunteers will be treated to a buffet luncheon at Mike’s Seafood Dockside Restaurant, 4222 Park Road (in the heart of Fish Alley). The luncheon will include a variety of delicious options, including selections children will enjoy.
“This is a very important effort,” said Environmental Commission Chairperson Annette Lombardo. “Each year, people collect all kinds of objects – and they can keep any interesting items they find. One year, a young boy even found a one-hundred dollar bill!”
