VILLAS- After being stocked with trout two weeks ago, the pond at the former Ponderlodge opened for fishing, Sat. April 7.
By about 7 a.m. people had already begun to arrive and stake out claim to a prime fishing spot, according to Lower Township Mayor Michael Beck.
“The cool air and brisk wind did not deter a large crowd from gathering at the pond and by 8 a.m., when the state game enforcement officer sounded the start-up siren, the crowd was estimated at over 150 people,” he said.
Beck said It took seconds for the first fish to be landed, and soon a number of happy people had landed fish one could only dream about.
“For many, this was a first time fishing in fresh water, as prior to this stocking of fish in Flynn Pond at the Cox Hall Creek Wildlife Management Area ( formerely Ponderlodge) by NJ Fish and Wildlife, they would have been forced to drive to Dennis Township to land a fish that can now be caught inside Lower Township. Whether they caught fish or not, all agreed that it was a fantastic day at the lake,” said Beck.
