Stockton Presents ‘Green New Deal’ Lecture Series

By Press Release

GALLOWAY – How might the proposed Green New Deal affect the Jersey Shore?
According to a release, Stockton University’s American Democracy Project/Political Engagement Project (PEP) will host two free, open-to-the-public lectures focusing on topics related to the Green New Deal from 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and Oct. 28 as a part of its “Climate Change and the Green New Deal” lecture series.
The Green New Deal is a wide-ranging proposal developed by members of the Democratic Party to mobilize investment in projects that will address climate change and its effects.
The lecture series will bring together experts to discuss the scientific feasibility of the Green New Deal, the environmental justice approach of the plan and the potential impacts of the proposal for the local greater Atlantic City community.
The theme of the Oct. 24 lecture is “Lessons from Sandy: Examining the Local Effects of the Green New Deal,” and will be presented by the New Jersey Organizing Project and Stockton Assistant Professor of Sociology Christina Jackson.
It will take place at the Stockton Atlantic City Academic Center, 3711 Atlantic Ave, in the Fannie Lou Hamer Event Room.
The theme of the Oct. 28 lecture is “The Science of the Green New Deal,” and will be presented by Ron Hutchison, Stockton associate professor of biology, and Patrick Hossay, Stockton associate professor of sustainability. It will be held in the Campus Center Theatre on the Galloway campus.
