Spring Beach Sweep of Cape May Harbor Scheduled

CAPE MAY – Friends, neighbors and fans of Cape May Harbor are invited to come out and assist with the 2012 spring Beach Sweep, scheduled for Sat., April 21 beginning at 9:00 a.m. and concluding at 12:30 p.m. In addition to the Sweep, volunteers will assist with the removal of invasive plant species from the upland areas of the Nature Center campus.
The Cape May Harbor Beach Sweep includes those public access ‘beaches” adjacent to the Corinthian Yacht Club, thence along the harbor in front of the Nature Center, Fisherman’s Memorial and ending at Harbor View Park.
Volunteers are asked to report to the Beach Captain, New Jersey Audubon’s Sanctuary Director, Gretchen Whitman, at the Nature Center, 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ 08204 on Sat. morning, April 21 at 9:00 a.m. Trash bags, work gloves, snacks and instructions will be provided. It is recommend that volunteers wear sturdy work shoes, comfortable and durable clothing, sunscreen and wide brim hat.
For over 25 years, this bi-annual event has been organized by Clean Ocean Action which is a broad based coalition of over 100 civic, community, environmental and business groups united with the single goal of protecting and preserving New Jersey’s ocean habitat.
Cape May Harbor was designated an official New Jersey beach in 2009. Please come out and be part of the solution.
