SEA ISLE CITY — Thousands flocked to this seaside resort Sat., June 19 to mark Skimmer Weekend on and near the Promenade.
A pod of porpoises frolicked just beyond the breakers where swimmers were enjoying the gentle surf. On the beach, a rainbow of colored umbrellas sheltered beach goers from the brilliant sun.
The event was sponsored by the city Tourism Department, and featured over 400 vendors and 20 food court locations offering a wide array of delicacies from seafood to desserts.
On the beach just east of Kennedy Boulevard, Chuck Feld, a professional sand sculptor from West Chester, Pa., assisted by Tony Cygan of Bethlehem, Pa., created a whimsical sea dragon from the gray beach sand, cemented by buckets of sea water.
For the youngsters there were amusements, including a moon walk and pony rides.
Music was provided on June 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. by Juicy. On Sunday, the music was provided by Snake Brothers Band.
Also on Sunday, an antique auto show is planned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Also on Sunday, free guided historical trolley tours will take place from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
At 1:30 p.m. Sunday, a parade of those antique cars was planned.
