SEA ISLE CITY – In his customary opening statement to City Council, Mayor Leonard Desiderio informed council members Oct. 11 that “the city is working with the county on several flood mitigation projects in various areas of Sea Isle.”
“According to our previous municipal island-wide comprehensive plan, we were able to identify what areas could benefit by installing stormwater pumping stations,” Desiderio explained. “One is already operating at 38th Street and two others are in the planning and design stages and slated for 42nd and 47th streets from Landis Avenue to the bay.”
The Sea Isle Mayor hopes to acquire more in the future, perhaps with state or federal funding.
“Per other provisions of the comprehensive plan, additional locations which would benefit from the pumps come under both Sea Isle and county jurisdiction. There’s significant state and federal funding that could possibly facilitate the purchase and installation of more pumps. We’re certainly going to make the best case possible to get our fair share,” he summed up.
