WILDWOOD CREST ─ The completion of the Sunset Lake Stabilization and Improvement Project was celebrated June 21. Wildwood Crest Borough officials opened the new gazebo with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Special guests included Freeholders E. Marie Hayes, Will Morey, and Jeffrey Pierson, and members of the Francis Celebre family.
“Sunset Lake is stunning,” Mayor Don Cabrera said. Cabrera reflected on the years of work after Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
Crest officials worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in order to stabilize the shoreline. Environmental concerns ensured protection to migratory birds and marine life. Heavy equipment did its work while protecting natural habitats.
Cabrera thanked Borough Administrator Constance Mahon for her efforts in coordinating the project. Former Mayor Carl Groon was also thanked for laying the project’s foundation.
The gazebo was dedicated in memory of Francis Ronald Celebre (1946-1998).
Cabrera reflected on Celebre’s life and thanked family members for attending.
A second ribbon cutting was held to celebrate improvements made on Rambler Road. They were: better-defined bicycle lanes, seating, lighting, and landscaping. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps and beach access also composed the work.
Cabrera said he would seek more funding for street ends, increasing access and aesthetics for beachgoers.
