Pinelands Orientation Set for May 29

By Press Release

WOODBINE – The Pinelands Commission will hold its annual Pinelands Orientation for Newly Elected and Appointed Officials and an Update for other elected or appointed municipal officials May 29, 2014, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pinelands Commission Headquarters, Richard J. Sullivan Center, 15 Springfield Road, Pemberton, NJ. This Orientation is co-sponsored by the New Jersey Pinelands Commission and the Pinelands Municipal Council.
This year’s event will feature a special presentation that will highlight the Commission’s recent screening-level assessment of uncapped landfills in the Pinelands Area.
This Orientation will immediately precede the May meeting of the Pinelands Municipal Council.
Besides being helpful to elected and appointed officials who serve a community affected by the New Jersey Pinelands Comprehensive Plan (CMP), this seminar presents an opportunity for a local official to meet the Pinelands Commission Executive Director and senior staff and to discuss Pinelands issues from a local perspective, while networking with meeting and networking with other local officials throughout the Pinelands region.
Attendees will learn how their community’s Master Plan and zoning ordinances relate to the Pinelands CMP and how the permitting of development is coordinated at the State, Regional, County, and Municipal levels and how to get quick answers to questions their constituents have about Pinelands programs and regulations.
Registration is required by May 23. There is no cost for the seminar and dinner will be provided. Any questions and to register, please call Paul Leakan at the Pinelands Commission (609-894-7300).
All are also invited to attend the Pinelands Municipal Council meeting following the seminar and get an opportunity to meet the representatives of the 53 Pinelands municipalities that offer suggestions and recommendations to the Commission on issues that impact their communities.
