North Wildwood OK’s $96K Beach Monitoring Contract

By Deborah McGuire

NORTH WILDWOOD — City Council unanimously passed a resolution awarding a contract to the Richard Stockton College Coastal Research Center for beach monitoring services in the amount of $96,062.
“This is the agreement that we have with Dr. Steve Farrell and Stockton where they take quarterly measurements of our beach,” said Councilman Patrick Rosenello during the March 6 council meeting.
According to the councilman, two years ago the city was able to recoup $4 million for beach replenishment because the information gathered by Stockton was available.
“We had the beach replenishment that got knocked out in a storm,” said Rosenello. “We had taken these before and after measurements. It’s pretty much what guaranteed us our FEMA money which allowed us to put the beach back in shape.”
Without having taken the measurements, the city would probably not have been reimbursed by FEMA, said Rosenello.
The contract includes the sand transfer from Wildwood Crest to the city.
“This is money very well spent every year,” said Rosenello.
