By Press Release

NORTH WILDWOOD – As in past years, beginning the week of April 22, 2019, North Wildwood will begin their annual shore protection and replenishment project of moving sand from Wildwood to North Wildwood.

According to a release, during that time, North Wildwood beaches will intermittently be closed at various sections from Second to 26th avenues while the work is being completed.

The city’s appointed contractor will continue work to replenish the beaches from erosion, which occurred over the 2018-19 fall/winter months.

‘Beach Closed’ signs and fencing will be posted at various beach entrances throughout Wildwood and North Wildwood throughout the course of this project. All work relative to this year’s sand backpass project will be completed prior to Memorial Day Weekend.
The temporary staging area for the project will be between 15th and 16th avenues on the beach between the boardwalk and the dune. A large amount of sand was also stockpiled in-house by North Wildwood’s Department of Public Works this winter, which will greatly assist this year’s replenishment efforts. That stockpiled sand is between 24th–16th avenues on the beachfront.
Mayor Patrick Rosenello stated, “The City of North Wildwood has always been and will continue to be a proponent of shore protection and hazard mitigation. Although temporary, these sand backpass projects continue to protect our investments in property and infrastructure, while helping to preserve our quality of life in North Wildwood.”
Residents, visitors and homeowners are reminded to be aware of posted signage and beach closures now through May 23, 2019. For additional information, please contact the North Wildwood Administration Office at (609) 522-6464. Those with an emergency, please contact 911.
