COURT HOUSE – Middle Township went to (paper) shreds April 20.
That’s when, from 9 a.m. until noon, over 300 cars headed to the Public Works yard, 400 W. Mechanic St. with bags and boxes filled to overflowing with 17,620 pounds of paper. That’s 8.81 tons of paper recycled for which the municipality will get credit from the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority.
According to Rita Kirk, that recycled paper tally was up nearly a full ton over the fall’s shredding day.
Another shredding day is planned in the fall, she said.
To reduce lines and waiting time, three trucks from SafeGuard Document Destruction were ready to do their task.
Middle Township Public Works employees either took from vehicles or assisted owners in carrying shred-ready paper to bins which were then shredded on the spot.
The shredding day was funded totally by a recycling grant, Kirk said.
In addition to paper, eight boxes of recycled shoes were collected to aid those in need with good, wearable shoes.
